Functions of designated Port Health Officer

To examine baggage, cargo, containers, conveyances, goods,


postal parcels and human remains departing and arriving from
affected areas to ensure that they are free of sources of
infection or contamination, including vectors and reservoirs.
To ensure that facilities used by travellers at points of entry
are maintained in a sanitary condition and are kept free of
sources of infection or contamination, including vectors and
reservoirs.
To
perform

de-ratting,

disinfection,

disinsection

or

decontamination of baggage, cargo, containers, conveyances,


goods, postal parcels and human remains or sanitary measures
for persons, as appropriate.
To advise conveyance operators, as far in advance as possible,
of their intent to apply control measures to a conveyance and
provide written information concerning the methods to be
employed.
To supervise or participate in the removal and safe disposal of
any contaminated water or food, unused or condemned food,
human

or

animal

dejecta,

wastewater

and

any

other

contaminated matter from a aircraft or sea vessel which are


dangerous to the health.
To provide services concerning travellers, baggage, cargo,
containers, conveyances, goods, postal parcels and human
remains at his/her point of entry.
To ensure, as far as practicable, that facilities used by
travellers at his/her point of entry are maintained in a sanitary
condition

and

are

kept

free

of

sources

of

infection

or

contamination, including vectors and reservoirs.


To supervise or participate or perform in removal and safe
disposal of any contaminated water or food, unused or
condemned food human or animal dejecta, wastewater and any

other contaminated matter from a vessel which are dangerous


to the health.
To ensure that

goods

of

quarantine

importance

are

accompanied by valid documents, either for importation of


exportation.
To prevent the introduction and dissemination of vectors and
materials harmful to human health from foreign countries, by
prohibited and/or restricting the entry or movement of goods
of public health importance.
To prepare and submit reports to his/her superior.
To perform any other duties that may be assigned to him by
the Port Health Officer In-charge.
