Discuss the presidents approach to human resource management. What are the
possible repercussions of this episode? Assuming that job termination is the best
alternative available, how should management approach the situation?
The presidents decision on terminating accounting and clerical employees is
slight ineffective and might be would not work. This is because there could be a
possible repercussions such as the employees that has been eliminate would have
current experience as obstacle for their future employment where they would feel fear
and concern of losing their job again if there is any new implementation on their
future company. Therefore, the productivity of the remain employees would reduce as
some might lose their partner or they might put hatred feeling towards the company. If
these feelings keep going on then problems like high absentee rates, poor work
performance, and resentment towards the new system may arise. The unsatisfied
employees also might sabotage the new system.
If the job termination is the best alternative available, the management should provide
compensation towards each employees to express appreciation to their contribution to
the company. The management also need to communicate with each employee before
the termination had done and explain clearly the situation besides make clear that the
company is really appreciate the effort of the terminate employees so that they would
not feel any hatred towards the company. Furthermore, the management could
relocate the employees within the company rather than fully terminate them. Offering
early retirement incentives where possible also is one of the effort that the
management could do to manage the situation. The management also could give an
early notice on the termination so the terminate employee could make early plan to
find another job.
