Obamacare Decimates the Three Main Industries in Music City

As a candidate for U.S. House in Tennessees 5th district, the district currently represented by Jim Cooper, I am
very concerned when it comes to Obamacare and its negative impact upon Nashville. Obama and Pelosi didnt
miss a beat when they penned their new, completely unconstitutional, and therefore void, Healthcare Bill.
We all have heard how doctors and quality of healthcare will be adversely affected, but what we haven't heard
is how it also raises taxes on royalties. As an attorney, with the majority of my clients in the entertainment
industry, this issue is a huge concern. District 5, which is mainly Davidson County, is known around the
world as being Music City and music is how many Nashvillians make their money. Most of the industry
people with whom Ive been talking were not aware that Obamacare raises the taxes on royalties 3.8%. The
top 3 industries in Nashville are music, religious publishing and healthcare, and not one of these was left out of
harms way. Those currently in control in Washington left no stone unturned when looking for money to pay
for this Healthcare legislation; the extremely unfortunate reality is that Nashville got hit hard in the process.

I have been a practicing attorney for nearly 20 years with a focus on federal legislation and am admitted to
practice in Tennessee, California, and Missouri. I am also a small business owner running a record label, a
production company, a publishing company, and band with my husband, Rick Heil. My law firm, Heil Law,
caters to all areas within the entertainment industry. As such, I fully understand how devastating it will be to
Nashvilles main industries if they are unable to keep taxes to a minimum in this current economic climate.

Nashville is full of noble and heroic people. We all witnessed this first-hand during the recent flood - neighbor
helping neighbor, stranger helping stranger. I feel strongly that Nashvilles key industries deserve to have their
representative fight to protect them from excessive governmental intrusion. I personally am appalled that this
tax increase was snuck in with absolutely no warning and no debate and will penalize a large sector of district
5 constituents by burdening the 3 main areas in which most make a living. Everyone in Nashville needs to be
made aware of this issue and we need to send a clear message to Washington that we demand that this injustice
is corrected in the next session.
