Grade Level: 2
Content Area: Science
Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tool Used: Timeline on ReadWriteThink
Standards Addressed: S2L1. Students will investigate the life cycles of different living organisms.
c. Investigate the life cycle of a plant by growing a plant from a seed and by recording changes over a
period of time.
Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:

Evaluating Creating

Description of how to implement in the class: A lecture over the life cycle of a plant will be given
in class. A powerpoint including the Timeline example I created will be shown to the class. I will let
them know that they will be using the tool next week as well. An overview of the tool will be given.
The teacher will have five different types of seeds the students can choose from. A leader for each
seed small group will be chosen and then students will gather in the group of their chosen seed. Each
student will have a cup they will fill with soil and they will place the seed within their cup. Students
will water their seed, journal about their seed, and one member of the group will take a picture of
one of the cups in their group daily.
After their plant has died and then another seed has been germinated and starts to grow the students
will go to the computer lab or go to their tablets depending on the resources of the given school.
They will create their own timeline on Timeline on ReadWriteThink. They will go through the life
cycle of their plant. I will then publish their work on our classroom website.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): Here we achieve LoTi level 6, which is Refinement.
Students have access to the technology throughout the day and keep log of their plants progress on
it. Each student is able to choose what plant they want and take photographs of it. They create a
Timeline on a tablet or computer of their plant and are skilled and have experience with the
technology. They are creating a product they have chosen that is meaningful to them.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: Viewers will see the example of the project I have
created. It shows the life cycle of a plantThe students will include the date and time of the
observation in their own projects. I will also give a tutorial in how to use and access Timeline.
