Biotechnology

Biotechnology has a lot of applications and I will talk about

antibiotics and vaccine in the field of Medicine. At its simplest,
biotechnology is technology based on biology - biotechnology
harnesses cellular and bio-molecular processes to develop
technologies and products that help improve our lives and the
health of our planet.
Antibiotics are biotechnological products that inhibit bacterial
growth or kill bacteria. They are naturally produced by
microorganisms, such as fungi, to attain an advantage over
bacterial populations. Many antibacterial compounds are
classified on the basis of their chemical or biosynthetic origin into
natural, semi synthetic, and synthetic. Another classification
system is based on biological activity. In this classification,
antibiotics are divided into two broad groups according to their
biological effect on microorganisms: bactericidal agents kill
bacteria, and bacteriostatic agents slow down or stall bacterial
growth. But sometimes too much antibiotics may also cause liver
damage.
A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired
immunity to a particular disease. Vaccination is different from
giving medicine to an unwell child to make them better. Others
dont like vaccines and sometime they would just say leave it to
nature. However, deciding not to vaccinate your child puts them
at risk of catching a range of potentially serious, even fatal,
diseases. In reality, having a vaccination is much safer than not
having one.
They're not 100% effective in every child, but they're the best
defence against the epidemics that used to kill or permanently
disable millions of children and adults. But still it has side effects.
Most common side effects are to have redness or swelling around
the injection site, but this soon goes away. Younger children or

babies may be a bit irritable or unwell, or have a

slight temperature. And this usually goes away within one or two
days. In much rarer cases, some people have an allergic reaction
soon after a vaccination. This is usually a rash or itching that
affects part or all of the body.
