The song called Chandelier from Sia is one of the best song to connect to the book
called Catcher in the Rye . Based on what Ive read, the lyrics of this song described Holdens
recent situation where he left Pencey Prep and went to New York City just for the sake of having
fun. And the song also described how Holden repressed his feeling by doing things that is not
appropriate for 16 years old boy.
In the second verse of the song, Im the one for a good time call describes how
Holden was used for the sake of someone else. For example, when Stradlater asked him to write
an essay when Holden is not even his best friends. In this situation, Stradlater is using Holden for
the sake of his assignments. The second connections was the way Holden repress his feelings by
drinking alcohols or try something he never did before. In the lyrics 1,2,3 1,2,3 drink 1,2,3
1,2,3 drink, made me think of the part when Holden drinks his alcoholic drink. Somehow, in the
novel doesnt tell us how Holden repress his feelings, but I think that drinking alcohol is another
way Holden repress his feelings. According to what Ive heard,when you drink something that
has a very strong smell while you are stressing, it can reduce the stress-pain and will feel very
relieved.
In my opinion, I think that this song made the best connection to the novel Catcher in the
Rye the most because it is a song that express towards teenager who have depression. So, Holden
really fits in this type of song called , Chandelier.
