PREFACE TO THE REVISED ENGLISH EDITION
These nine pieces for solo voice and piano were composed to form part of
the Koddly Choral Wethod. Originally they consisted of wordless vocalises, and
as port of the student's final stage of development in combined musicianship
and literacy training.
Essentially they are for reading at sight, and for this purpose they differ
From other items from the Method in that they are accompanied.
Due tw the mure advanced technique of the singer implicit in this collection ,
the composer was able to produce items of such immediacy of appeal that words
were later added by Melinda Kistetenyi and the resulting songs becane popular
with both singers and concert aud
‘The English words by Geoffry Russell-Smith donot attempt a line-by-line
transliteration. but capture the mood of the original atmospheric and evocative
lycies.
