Liquids

By: Carly, Paige, Zach, & Andy

What is a liquid?

A fluid that takes the

space of any object
The particles move around freely
Liquids have a definite volume but not a definite shape

What is Density?

The amount of
matter in a certain
amount of space

Measuring Density
Measuring the density is the
same for a solid and gas
Use the formula m/v=d to
find the density
Only for Water
75g=75ml
1g/ml

Density of Water

Mass of water= 49.7 g

Volume of water= 50 ml
Density of water:
49.7/50= .994 g/ml

Density of Salt Water Solution

Mass of Salt Water: 54.2 g

Volume of Salt Water: 50 ml
Density of Salt Water:
54.2/50= 1.084 g/ml

Density of Sugar water

Mass of Sugar Water- 50.7 g

Volume of Sugar Water- 50 ml
Density of Sugar Water50.7/50= 1.014 g/ml

Density of Copper Chloride

Mass of Copper Chloride: 57 g

Volume of Copper Chloride:
50 ml
Density: 57/50=1.14 g/ml

What can you conclude about the density of solution when

a solute like sugar, salt, or copper chloride has been
dissolved in it?

When you add a solute such as sugar, salt,

or copper chloride, into water, a solvent,
it causes the density to be greater
because it is more than just water in the
container.
