I attended the 36th annual MANS State convention hosted at Notre dame of Maryland

University on 2/13/16. The team for the convention was iLEAD (Leadership, Education,
Advocacy and Dedication). I found it to be very informative. The Keynote speaker Jo Ann Webb,
RN, MHA, FAAN who is also the vice president for Federal Relations and Policy for American
organization of Nurse Executive (AONE) spoke about the Affordable Care act, The goals of the
act, the act impact on nursing, how it has transform health care system, made new roles for
nursing in Maryland and new opportunity nurses have e.g. Case manager, patient Navigator, care
Managers care coordinators and Health couches. She stress out the fact that each and every nurse
should practice to the full extent of their education by achieving higher levels of education and
above all nurses should be full partners with doctors.
I attended four breakout sessions, wound ostomy/ care session by Amanada Owen,
critical care/Neuro session by Gordon Han from university of Maryland Johns Hopkins,
stimulation lab by Janice Brennan and Kaplan NCLEX review with Roxanne Rash.
The conference ended with a very interesting speech from the end note speaker Marianne Hess,
MSN, RN, CCRN. She said You dont have to be big to make a different. You can have
leadership, Education, Advocacy and Dedication in small ways. She also stresses the fact that
nurses should utilize current evidence base practice during patient care. The conference was very
informative and I learned a lot.
