During this NFDN class we have gone over the health assessments for
prenatal patients. This was something that I explored further while
doing my teaching assignment especially with identifying potential risk
factors.

paramount in her care. This is the first stepping stone in providing her
with the care that she will need to have a safe, healthy fetus and
pregnancy. If a comprehensive health assessment is not performed
adequately or at all this is extremely detrimental to the mother and the
child.
I feel my proficiency in this category is between fair to good. I know
what I need to ask and why I need to ask these things. The thing I need
to work most on is identifying potential risk factors as this is something
that requires now only book knowledge but experience as well.

While I do not plan on going into the maternity field as of right now it
is still always important to perform a comprehensive health assessment

on my patients. It is always a good thing to get in the mindset to


explore all possibilities at the beginning of a patients care to be
prepared for the majority of obstacles that can be put in the way of a
patients health.
