Sayaji Hotel, Pune


Sayaji Hotel, with a foundation based on genuine care, is a 4 star hotel at Pune. Operating
in Indore, Pune, Bhopal, Vadodara and Kolhapur; the belief at Sayaji is When you do something,
do it well. Sayaji Hotel, Pune has 270 people staff of which 60 are female staff. And the attribution
rate at Sayaji is around 2%.
At Sayaji; they call themselves 9 hotels in 1. Sayaji Pune is spread over nine floors, with
each floor being a hotel in its own right. Every floor has a unique theme and its own reception,
staff, gym and other exclusive features. For any European guests, they came up with an idea of
special German floor, with staff that can take care of all special requirements.
At Sayaji, guests can avail the extraordinary experience of Presidential Suite,
accommodation for executives, Banquets for 25-3500 guests and Luxury Restaurant/ Bar.
A. Current Scenario- What Sayaji Hotel is providing to their female customers.
Sayaji Hotel has taken some initiatives for women as their customers and their employees as
well.
For their female employees, they have kept only day shift.
They provide travelling and shopping assistance to their female customers.
For their female customers from abroad, they provide special assistance. The reason being;
many a time these visitors are fascinated by the Indian culture. So as to help them; Sayaji
Hotel takes care that special attention is given to them.
Sayaji Hotel celebrates Womens Day for guests and their employees as well.
Special functions are organised for women employees on womens day.
They claim free environment at Sayaji for their customers as their USP.
B. Services and Strategies we suggested:
When we had a word with the Assistant Manager of Sayaji Hotel, Pune, Mr. Riwaj Rai;
we came to know that 2 years back their female customers were around 40% of the total customers
which now has fallen to 20%. The reason they consider being, women mostly when travelling
alone, feel unsafe while staying in hotels.
Taking this reason into consideration, we suggested the following services which they can
provide to their women customers so as to enable them to raise their female customer count from
20%.

They can tie-up with women cab services like; Sakha Cabs for women, Viira Cabs,
Priyadarshini Taxi Service and technology enabled taxi services for women; like,
SheTaxi. Providing cabs driven by women would create a sense of security and safety in the
minds of their women customers. This service would also enable the assistance which
Sayaji Hotel provides for their women customers, reducing the cost of hiring separate staff
for the purpose of assistance while travelling.
Providing a separate floor for women customers, this would include the entire women
staff on that floor.
They can provide video calling service to their women customers, through whom they
can directly get in touch with the female staff of Sayaji Hotel for their assistance whenever
they feel unsafe or need some help. This staff would work as customer service providers,
where they would listen to their customers problems and get back to the staff in Hotel at
that moment itself. Also; as Sayaji Hotel follows this concept of only day shift for
women, this customer service staff then can work from home. The idea behind this

suggestion was that when women feel unsafe they most probably try to contact other
women. Here, the women customers can directly video call female personnel as a matter of
their comfort-level.
Considering the fall in their female customers in past 2 years; to attract female
customers, we suggested the following strategies which they can apply.

When women visitors arrive, many a times they feel the need to buy certain things like;
medications, apparels (in case they forgot to carry few things), cosmetics, etc. So, here they
can tie-up with local stores and Malls in Pune. They can create a website, where they can
make all these products of the local stores and Malls available for online shopping, which .
We thought of local stores and Malls only in Pune because, the delivery time should be
less and as per the customers urgency.
They can get permission to set a counter at the Pune Airport; where the people arriving
could easily contact the personnel of Sayaji Hotel present at that counter. The customers
could book room from the airport itself. Also, as mentioned earlier, they can provide special
women cab service to women customers irrespective of the time they arrive.
The idea behind this suggestion was that; setting a counter at the airport itself would create
an awareness of the extra services which Sayaji Hotel provides to their customers and
women customers especially, just in case when visitors from other parts of the country or
from abroad travel here and are unaware of these services.
Customised gym for women. The idea being; most of the times women feel uncomfortable
while gymming with men.
Female employees should be given preference in case of leave.
A complete floor designed for women with butler service to be given by female staff itself
and including chef on call service with female chef, for personalised cuisines.
They can give special offers for women customers on Womens Day and can also tie-up
with organizations working for women.
They can provide Baby-Sitter Service for customers who need this service. We
suggested this idea with a view that, there are few women customers who feel the need of
baby-sitters but fail to get such service at hotels. Sayaji Hotel can enable this service to their
customers which would be a paid service.
Using these strategies would not only increase their women customers but also be
beneficial from a business point of view, where there are many other competitors for Sayaji
Hotel in Pune.
