20 years without Selena

This past 31 March 2015, marks the 20th anniversary of beloved Tejano
singer Selena, who was killed by the presidente of her fan club in Corpus
Christi,Texas.

Selena Quintanilla was in the fast track to become a house hold name. As a
young girl, Selena singed in her fathers restaurant, while her sibilings A.B
and Suzette played bass and drums. Performing in events like weddings and
baptisms gained them notoriety and lead them into creating their own music
group: Selena y los Dinos
At the young age of 15, Quintanilla was already known in the Tejano music
secene, winnig Female Entertainer of the Year, which earned her a record
contract.
Through the years, the music gained new members and one of them caught
Selena eye. The man in question was Chris Perez, the new guitarrista. The
attraction was mutual and by the time she was 21, the two married in secret
because of her fathers dissaproval.

In the year prior to the her dead , the latin star won a Grammy for her album
Selena Live! and was already considered na A-list star.
The star had everything going her way until the day Yolanda Salivar, the
president of her fan club shot her in a motel, while the two were arguing
about the Money Yolanda had been embezzling from the fan club. The shot
was fatal. Selena was only 23. While the world processed the death of the
latin beauty, Yolanda was acussed of first-degree morder and was senteced
to life in prison.

Selenas legacy has lived on and now 20 years after her passing her
presence is still noticeable. Her Facebook page has over 2 million likes.
Several albums of Selenas greatest hits and material she had been working
on before her death havebeen released by her family. Many documentaries
and movies created around her life, the most known being Selena, the
movie that catapulted Jennifer Lopez towards sucess. Also as a tribute to her
life, there is a festival in her home town of Corpus Chrisit called Fiesta de
la Flor. The festival in celebrated in mid April and gathers fans from all over
to celebrate her life and her legacy.

Selena energy was like no other and her presence remains. Many have been
inspired by her incredible vocals, amazing fashion and her good looks. But
the thing that is missed the most is her charming personality that could
light up a room and everyone in it.
