I am writing to express my interest in applying for an Elementary Education teaching position. I
am currently completing my degree in Elementary Education at Alma College with an expected
graduation date in December 2016 along with a minor in Early Childhood Education.
To prepare for my teaching career, I have completed 180 hours of classroom observations and
teaching. Throughout my classroom placement experiences I have worked in Head Start,
preschool, and 5th grade classrooms. I have also been a student teacher in the Preschool at St.
Mary School in Alma, MI and in a Kindergarten classroom at Luce Road Early Childhood
Learning Center in Alma, MI. While in these two classrooms, I acted as the lead teacher and took
over a variety of teaching responsibilities. I was able to learn about myself as an educator and
apply the knowledge I have gained while at Alma. I believe that all students are capable of
learning in a safe and nurturing environment. In this environment, students will be able to apply
what they are learning in order to gain the skills they need to become life-long learners.
In addition to my Education coursework, I have increased my understanding of childrens needs
through my work as an assistant teacher at Tutor Time Childcare/Learning Center for the past
year and a half. I have developed my communication skills as well as my time management
skills due to my employment.
