Solids
What is a solid?- Solids come in all shapes and sizes. A
solid is a state of matter that is firm and stable, and the
molecules have very little room for movement. It has a
definite shape and volume.
How to find the mass of a solid- Use a digital scale and
find the mass
How to find the volume of a solid- Length*width*height
How to find the density of a solid- D=m/v. The unit of
measurement is written as g/cm^3

Learning Target:
Matter is a substance or substances of which any physical object consists or is
composed...
The three main states matter exists in are liquids, solids, and gasses.
If you were to put a solid in a container, it would still stay
its same exact shape because Particles in a solid are
packed closely together, which is also the reason why
solids have such hard surfaces.

If you were to put a liquid in a container,

it would take the shape of the container
because Particles in a liquid are packed
together, but they can also spread apart
a little.

If you were to put a gas in a

container, it would take the
volume of the container because
Particles in a gas spread apart
real far..

Physical & Chemical Properties

Physical Properties - Physical properties are characteristic
that dont change the substance (mass, volume, density,
solubility, weight, ductile, malleable, color...)
* No NEW substances are created
Chemical Properties - Chemical properties are
characteristics that change the substance
*a NEW substance is created
