Society

is a population with the same territory


Is subject to the same political authority
Participates in a common culture.

Several Conditions must be met before people can be said living to society.

They must occupy a common territory.


They must share the same government or other political authority.
They must to some extent have a common culture and a sense of
membership in, and commitment to, the same group.

Social Structure - is the pattern of relationships among the basic components


in a social system.

Status The individual position in society.


Role The pattern of expected behavior attached to a
particular status.
Group a way of collection of people interacting together in
an orderly way on the basis of shared expectations about each
others behavior.
Social Institutions A stable cluster of values, norms,
statuses, roles, and groups that develop around a basic social
need.

Types of Society
1. Hunting and Gathering Society
Is one relying for its subsistence on such wild animals and
vegetation as its members can hunt or gather.
2. Pastoral Societies
Rely on its subsistence primarily on domesticated herd animals.
3. Horticultural societies
Rely on its subsistence primarily on the hoe cultivation of
domesticated plants.
4. Agricultural Societies
Also referred to as agrarian societies.
5. Industrial Societies
The one that uses advances in technology to drive strong
manufacturing.

6. Post- industrial Society


One relying for its subsistence primarily on the production of
service information.
