WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Kelsie Bradford

Directions: Using the template below, describe how students could use a blog, wiki, or other websitecreation tool to learn required learning standards in your content area: For an A grade provide an idea that
reaches a Level of Technology Implementation of 4 or above. Remember higher levels (4-6) require that
students assume adult/professional roles; engage in higher-order thinking; and use technology
create/publish original content for their classmates and/or others beyond their school/classroom. The
learning activities and products should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will
view/use/benefit from students work. Review your handouts on Engaged Learning, Authenticity, and LoTi.

S1E1. Obtain, observe, and communicate, weather data to identify weather patterns.
d. Analyze data to identify seasonal patterns of change. (Classification statement: examples could include
temperature, rainfall/snowfall, and changes to the environment.)
Brief Description of Learning Experience: Students will be able to look at the blog, as well as parents, to
retrieve certain information. Students have the opportunity to meet the teacher before they even meet the
teacher in person as well as have the opportunity to tell about themselves on the classroom blog so that
other classmates could get to know them. The blog is also good for flipped classroom assignments and
websites. Websites will be posted under its own tab in case students would like to go on these websites for
fun or if they need to for assignments. The flipped classroom tab is great for students to engage in what is
coming up in the classroom. For example, on the flipped classroom tab there is an assignment that involves
listening to the audio file to figure out what the students will have to do. After listening to the audio file and
figuring out what they need to do, they will watch the video where the link is provided for them. This tab
will have flipped classroom assignments throughout the year so students will always be engaged.

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): The LoTi level that is being
represented here is level 3. This is because the teacher is guiding the student on the blog by having them
listen to the audio file and do other assignments when needed. Technology is also involved in order for
them to learn and complete the assignments. At the same time, students are the one in charge of when they
complete the assignment over the weekend, where they complete it, and so on. So in other words students
still have come choice.
Importance of technology: This project could not be completed without technology. Since the blog in
online, the students will need some form of technology in order to get on the blog to get to the flipped
classroom assignment as well as to listen to the audio file. What type of technology the student uses is up to
them as long as they can access the internet, watch videos, and listen to an audio file.
Inspiration (optional): The audio files are uploaded to the classroom blog and to my Weebly page. The
audio file will be found under the flipped classroom tab on the classroom blog. On the Weebly, the audio
file will be found under the Multimedia tab, then under audio.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some possible issues of the childs internet safety would be their
personal information as well as who they talk to online. In order to minimize the risk of having the students
talk to strangers online I will moderate the blog to where only the students in the class and their caregivers
would be able to view the blog or make comments. To minimize the risk of having their personal
information being leaked out I would teach students to not put their personal information online such as
their real, full name, their address, where their school is located, etc. In order to also achieve for the parents
to feel safe with their children online I would follow my schools online safety policies and send out certain
forms to allow access in posting each students work or photo.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I hope that the student learns that learning doesnt just happen in the classroom. I hope they come to
understand how to use technology better as well as learn a few different websites that can help them learn. I
also hope that the blog helps the students and their caregivers with knowing certain information about the
school or about our classroom.
Other comments about your proposed activity: Blogs are a great tool to use for your classroom. If you
keep them up to date and keep it engaging for everyone who comes upon the blog, it can be very effective
as well.
