PARASITICIDES

Antiparasitics are a class of medication which are indicated for the treatment
of parasitic diseases such as those caused by helminths, amoeba, ectoparasites,
parasites, fungi and protozoa.
Antiparasitics are one of the antimicrobial drugs which include antibiotics that
target bacteria and antifungals that target fungi.

3) Antifungals

Antihelminitics
Antihelminitcs are the drug used in treatment of worm
drugs act by two ways-

infestations. These

1. Vermifuge this means that expel the worms by paralysing them


2. Vermicide this means kill the worm inside the body

1) Mebendazole
2) Albendazole
3) Pyrantel
4) Praziquantel
MECHANISM OF ACTION
1) Inhibition of cytoplasmic microtubule synthesis
2) Inhibition of glucose uptake
3) Secretion of anticholinesterase

Adverse Effects
1. Mild nausea, vomating and diarrhoea
2. Mild abdominal pain
3. Hypospermia in higher dose

Amoebicides
Amoebiasis is a protozoal disease caused by Entamoeba histolytica .Amoebiasis
can be classified as
1. Intestinal amoebiasis with symtoms of dysentry , amoeboma etc.
2. Extraintestinal amoebiasis which may affect liver, lungs or brain.

Antifungal are the drugs which inhibit the fungal infection cause by the
fungus. Fungal infection classified into two catagories1. Dermatomycoses are infections of skin nail and hairs by dermatophytes.
2. Candidiasis infects the mucous membrane of mouth , vagina or skin.
