Keeli Comitos Student Teacher Weekly Log

1. How did you spend your time this week? What responsibilities did you have?
I was full time teaching this week, so I had all of the responsibilities again. I am learning that there
are a lot of things that come into play during the school day that make you adapt your normal
schedule. We have library time, guidance, Pick a Better Snack, 5th Grade Buddies, etc. Most of the
time my teacher tries to schedule these in the afternoons so that the core instruction routine is not
interrupted. I see the importance of this, but feel like the afternoon tends to get neglected when we
consistently miss science, social studies, and word work times.

2. What were the most satisfying experiences? Greatest challenge(s)?

We are starting to make some progress with the students who have behaviors. We have tried hard
to keep the parents involved in our problem solving strategies. It has been very satisfying to see the
small wins each day.
The greatest challenge for me this week has been maintaining volume levels in the classroom.
Sometimes I feel like all I do is constantly remind them if the proper voice level in the classroom and
hallways. I have asked my mentor teacher to help me with some strategies to try to help with this.
She has given me some ideas that I will begin to implement and see how they work.

3. What are the plans for the upcoming week? Best times (2-3) to observe?
Next week is my last official week of bell to bell teaching. Of course I will continue to co-teach
with my mentor teacher. We are working on a schedule of who will teach what for the following
weeks. Once again, you are welcome to observe at any time.
