Keeli Comitos Student Teacher Weekly Log

1. How did you spend your time this week? What responsibilities did you have?
I taught math this week along with word work and social studies/health/science block. I was
really excited to talk about Veterans Day. I talked with the kids about it all week, they made
cards for veterans, which I dropped off at the VA to be dispersed, and Friday my partner who is
in the army came to class and the kids were able to interview him about his military experience.
I was very impressed with how they handled it and the questions they came up with to ask him.
I hope to be able to provide my students with authentic experiences such as this.
2. What were the most satisfying experiences? Greatest challenge(s)?
The most satisfying was the interview with a veteran opportunity. Again, I was so impressed
with the maturity these first graders showed. The challenges remain the same with behaviors,
but they are getting much better.
3. What are the plans for the upcoming week? Best times (2-3) to observe?
Next week I will give math back to Miranda, but I will keep the word work and social
studies/health/science block. We have been talking about maps for social studies, so I am
planning to have my friend that is in town from Germany come to talk to the kids. They have
many questions for her about Germany and how it is different from America.
