1. 44 42. 13, 14. 24 2.2 3 34 32 TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF A*STAR PRE-GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR NUS UNDERGRADUATES (2009) Eligibility The A’STAR Pre-Graduate Scholarship (the "Award’) is open to undergraduates who are Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents, and nationals of ASEAN countries, who undertake to ‘embark on Ph.D. studies in Science & Engineering related disciplines, as approved by A*STAR, after the compietion of their undergraduate programmes. Applicants who are Singapore Permanent Residents, and nationals of ASEAN countries must agree to apply for and accept Singapore citizenship if they accept AYSTAR scholarships in respect of their Ph.D studies. Applicants must be fulltime undergraduates from NUS Sciences, Computing, or Engineering programmes (as approved by A*STAR), and are expected to obtain at least Second Class Upper Honours degrees. Applicants must not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship or eward for the duration of the Award. The Award The Award covers the following: i) Astipend during the pursuit of the Bachelor's degree programme amounting to: $460 per month in years 1 to 2; b. $560 per month in year 3; ¢. $760 per month in year 4; and 4. $760 per month in year 5 for up to 12 months per academic year, or up to the date of graduation, whichever is shorter in that academic year. ii) Tuition fee subsidy for the respective year(s) during the term of the Award. ii) Where any Award recipient applies for and is granted approval to undertake an overseas exchange programme, A*STAR may, at its discretion, additionally provide funding to cover: ‘a. one return economy airfare by the most direct and economical route (on proof of purchase from A’STAR's panel of travel agent(s)}; and b. monthly sustenance allowance based on Public Service Commission rates, for up to 6 months. ‘Award recipients’ admission into such exchange programmes will be based on their own merit as decided by their respective University, Upon admission, Award recipients may submit a request to A*STAR for consideration for the grant of the allowance in 2.4(li). A'STAR may, but shall not be obliged to, grant the said additional allowance. A*STAR may undertake a review of the Award on an annual basis, Candidates must attain a CAP score of 4.25 or higher in each year of study, failing which, A"STAR reserves the right to terminate the Award. Award Recipient Obligations During the period of the Award, the recipient may not accapt employment, whether or not he/she is remunerated, or hold concurrently any other scholarship, fellowship or award without the prior approval of A’STAR. ‘Award recipients are expected to attend A*STAR events and activities when invited unless prior reasons for non-attendance are given. Page 1 of 3 3.3 34 35 36 44 42 43 84 52 Upon graduation, the Award recipients are required to apply for @ Ph.D. programme in the month immediately after graduation i.e. January for those who graduate in December, or July for those who graduate in June. ‘Award recipients are to commence Ph.D. studies no fater than 6 months after graduation of the first degree Award recipients are required to submit documentary evidence of: i) _conferment of the relevant degree on them; and ji) enrolment in a Ph.D. programme within a maximum of 12 months of the date of graduation. ‘Award recipients are also required to: i) complete their Ph.D. programme; and ii) inform A°STAR of the conferment of Ph.D and submit documentary evidence within 3 months from the date of graduation, Termination ASSTAR reserves the right to terminate the award: i) atthe annual review if the Award recipient fails to attain a CAP score of 4.25 or higher in each year of study; or il) at any time without notice if the recipient's progress Is not salisfactory as determined by A'STAR at its sole discretion or in AYSTAR's view, the recipient is guilty of misconduct or any other similar causes; or ii) attany time without notice if clause 3.1 is not complied with. “The recipient may terminate the award by giving one month's notice in writing to A*STAR, ‘The award will cease upon the following: i) date of graduation: F ji) withdrawal from/termination of the course of study. Rofund In event of the following, the Award recipient will be required to refund the total award amount and tuition fees subsidy received plus 10% interest: 1) the Award recipient breaches clause 3.3, 3.4, 3.5 or 3.6; or ji) the Award is terminated under clause 4 ‘Award recipient who breaches the following conditions will be required to refund the total ‘award amount and tuition fees subsidy received plus prevailing bank charges as advised by ACSTAR's Finance. Award recipient is required to submit documentary evidence to ascertain the following circumstances, i) The recipient fails to obtain at least Second Class Upper Honours degree; or ji) The Award recipient succeeds in obtaining at least Second Class Upper Honours degree but is unsuecessful in securing a place in a Ph.D. programme. Page 2 0f 3 Exemptions & Revisions A‘STAR shall be entitled to make and issue additional guidelinesirevisions with respect to the ‘award from time to time, and to revise or amend such guidelines/revisions as it deems fit. All ‘such guidelines/revisions shall be deemed to be part of the terms and conditions of the Award. Third Parties ‘The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act (Cap. 538),shall apply to this Award, Page 3 of 3
