Zipline

Nov.3.2016

AAAAAAAAI stood fastened to a flimsy bamboo ladder; glancing sideways

would reveal a divine view of the tropical biome. My body was filled with regret; I
somehow convinced myself that scaling a thirteen-meter tree was a good idea. The KohChang jungle wind whipped my cotton t-shirt, and chilled my facial perspiration. My
eyes were level with the ladder, resisting temptation to gaze below. My fingertips went
completely numb, surrendering themselves to anxiety. Bodily senses grew acute as I
hesitantly stepped skyward. Once completing my ascent, a staff member greeted me. He
hoisted me on the wooden tree top platform. He latched wires to a vest I shortly
equipped. Above our heads was a thick zip wire that led into a colossal slope. Once the
staff member placed a handle bar on the wire, he signaled me over. Reluctantly, I reached
for the handle bar and drew near to the edge of the platform. I gave in to my temptation; I
stole a glimpse of the ground. To my delight, the vibrant flora below began to calm me.
The man surreptitiously gave me a shove from behind, creating a rapid descent. I
instantly forgot the betrayal, and tightened my grip on the bar. Flustered from breeze
hitting my face, I barely noticed the rushing green scenery. To my horror, I came to a halt
almost two-thirds down. I quickly grew desperate, and started imagining my death.
Adrenaline pumps through me, and my instincts emerge. My legs wavered back and
forth in a last attempt to rescue myself. Miraculously, the momentum shifted myself
forward and I zipped to safety. The tense atmosphere and rushing adrenaline vanished as
my feet were slowly placed onto the ground. I immediately begin to jog towards the tree
to once again zipline.
