Historical and cultural context of electronic dance music.

The 70s brought the birth of disco and the first club dance
music was made. The new disco clubs brought to the
plate the mix of funk, soul and smooth jazz-fusion into the
electronic aspect. In the 80s and 90s House, industrial,
freestyle and Techno, sub genres began gaining
popularity. Acid house and the beginning of rave were
trending in Germany and over here in the UK. In 1989 just
about 10,000 people at one time would come and attend
organized underground parties that were eventually
labelled as now what we know as raves. EDM finally had
got in to the streets of America during the 90s. The year
of 1998, Madonnas hit ray of light brought this genre to
popular music listeners. By the mid-year of 2000, the
dance craze was part of popular media attention. Social
media such as YouTube and Sound Cloud boosting the
electro house and Dubstep, popularizing Skrillex. In
January 2013 Billboard introduced a new electronic dance
music, Dance/Electronic Songs chart tracking the top
electronic songs based on sales, the radio airplay and the
online streaming. Now EDM is featured in songs that is
popular with this generation and is most popular in
dubstep and when making a sound cloud.
