Abstract

During t he Sino- American Ex pedi

lent t o a ret reat speed of 5 5~ 8 7 m/ a. T his sug

t ion to Mt . Qomolangma in 1997, the Rongbuk

Glacier w as investigated and its terminus locat ion w as

gest s that climat e in the reg ion has m ainly been in

w arming since t he early part of this cent ury, because

measured by means of GP S techniques. Comparison

glacier response to clim at ic change has a ret ardat ion.
