I am a student at Gunadarma University, one of the biggest university based-on-t
echnology in Indonesia, on Bachelor degree on Department of Civil Engineering an
d Planning. As last semester student, I have tried to choose concerning in using
and developing informatic technology for civil engineering's computer-aided pro
grams for designing. I have been learning about GNU/Linux and its compatibility
for CAD and other BIM application programs for support civil engineering's works
. Why I prefer GNU/Linux and free/ open source software is because they were cos
t-friendly and cheap softwares that could support learning process widely, remin
ding education especially in high degree education in my country is not cheap en
ough to be consumed by all public layers. I joined a few of online communities a
nd discussion groups to improve my skills through discussion and solving problem
s together.
