What is your opinion of this quote?

In much of society, research means to investigate something you do not know or understand.
-Neil Armstrong

For this quote, I can understand what the speaker means, but I disagree to some extent. I
understand that when the speaker researches something, you want to find out or fill in the wholes
of a concept you do not have the grasp of. I think that when you research an idea, its not only to
figure out something unknown, but even to further your knowledge of something. For example, I
was told that my maternal grandmothers father was an assistant to the British Commissioner.
When my aunt told me this, I wanted to find out who was this British Commissioner, so I used a
search engine to do this. I tried to find the Commissioner of the time my Great Grandfather was
alive and found out his name was Sir Nicholas something.
