I continued teaching unit 3 in math, narrative writing,
nonfiction text features, and plants. There were days with this many project-based activities, where I had to adjust the schedule and fit in what I could. When possible, I integrated one content area within another. For example, the students used nonfiction texts to learn about plants to start their research project on a plant topic they are most interested in. Overall, teaching bell to bell made the week go by extra fast. The most satisfying part of the week was knowing Mrs. Heintz trusted me to teach while she worked in the hall with students, and we were able to spend individual or small group time with twice as many students. We were able to complete many formative and summative assessments to use at conferences next week. In addition, I used this data to group the students for daily math rotations. The most frustrating part of the week was seeing the children be confused by narrative writing. I am going to make a better example, and reteach it next week. The students can either continue writing what they have or start over as needed. Next week, I will teach bell to bell again. Unit 3 in math is wrapping up, so I have the assessment prepared for Thursday and Friday. We will continue on with narrative writing, as well as researching plants. Conferences are next week, so I look forward to that valuable learning experience.
