Get Back Into the Game Quickly

As the car was spinning out of control on the highway, I felt like a character in
a movie.3 I was in a trance as my life flashed before my eyes.
It was a gloomy day, the sky was filled with clouds and the rain was hitting
against the window.4 Normally, this would ruin the mood, but not that day, because
my friends and I were driving down to the University of Maryland after just being
accepted. It was when we were making the turn onto the New Jersey Turnpike, that
the back wheels gave way and the car started spinning around and around and
around.1 The panicked screaming of my friends ringing in my ears 4 brought me back
to reality. I grabbed the wheel and tried to regain control of the car. The car finally
stopped when the back of it hit the guardrail. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
I pulled over to the side of the highway to try to process what had just
happened. I asked my friends if one of them would drive home because it was
obvious that we would have to visit another week and I did not think that I would
ever be able to get behind the wheel again.
It was this exact thought that made me realize just how important it was to
continue driving. The more time I waited to get back behind the wheel, the more
likely I would never drive again.7 We took it slow and got there safely.
From this, I learned that it is important not to let one bad experience or
failure stop you. Instead, you should use it as motivation to get back into the game,
as soon as possible. Do not psych yourself out. You do not want to end with a bad
taste in your mouth. Let the last experience that you have be a positive one!
