Screening/Testing Process and Guidelines:

The CogAT Level 9, Form 7 is administered in February to all 3rd grade students as a universal screening tool for aptitude.
Permission to Screen form must be signed before administering any additional test(s) or work sample(s). The Parent Student Rights document
should be sent along with this form for review.
Aptitude and achievement tests scores that are more than a year old should not be used for qualification. For rising fifth and sixth grade students
only, a new aptitude test must be administered before further screening.
If a student transfers in to a Davidson County school and has previously been identified as gifted, use the childs CogAT (or other aptitude test)
score to begin the qualification process for DCS. This score will only be valid if it is less than a year old. Any fourth or fifth grader who enters DCS
at the beginning of a school year (before September 30th) without a current aptitude score will be administered the appropriate level of the CogAT,
or any other necessary screening item, as soon as possible. Any fourth or fifth grader who enters DCS after September 30th of the current school
year and qualifies to be screened for AIG identification will begin this process during the February testing window. Each schools Data Manager
should notify the AIG Specialists at each school of any new students to 4th or 5th grade.
If a student could possibly qualify under the Pathway 3, a performance assessment must be given prior to any additional tests. If the students
performance assessment score meets Pathway 3 criteria, but the student still needs a fourth component to qualify, an additional aptitude or
achievement test should be administered.
The Naglieri is a nonverbal aptitude test that can be used as a screening tool for those students requiring alternative assessment as determined by
the Gifted Education Team. Please submit a copy of Request for Additional Information for Nomination to AIG Lead Teacher if you would like to
use this test. LEP/ESL students who have been in an English-speaking school for one or two years will receive the Naglieri aptitude test to
determine AIG eligibility. LEP/ESL students who have been in an English-speaking school for three or more years may receive the Naglieri or the
CogAT, based upon their current state testing accommodations.
The ITBS Acceleration Scale should be used for whole grade acceleration determination.
