LittleHanzoleadsthemtoanundergroundcaveknownasthe"HallofBones"wheretheyfindHanzo'ssword
ontheskullofagiantskeleton.Theskeletonattacksthemastheytrytoreclaimthesword,buttheydefeatit
andescape.Kubouseshismagictocreateaboatoutoffallenleaves,andtheysetsailacrosstheLongLake
andarrivefloatingoverthenextpieceofHanzo'sarmor,hisbreastplate.Thebreastplateliesbelowthelakein
theGardenofEyes,whereintrudersareentrancedandparalyzedbygianteyesbeforetheyareeatenbya
monster.BeetleandKubodiveintoretrievethebreastplate.OneoftheSistersattacksandMonkeymanagesto
defeather,butisbadlywoundedintheprocess.Kuborecoversthebreastplate,butisimmediatelyentranced.In
hisentrancedstate,hehasarevelation:Monkeyisinfacthismother,herspiritreincarnatedintophysicalform.
BeetlerescuesKuboandthedilapidatedboatisrestoredwithKubo'sandMonkey'sownmagic.
Onanearbyisland,thetriorestinacaveasMonkeyexplainsthatbeforeshemetKubo'sfather,sheandher
SistersweresenttokillHanzo.Instead,shefellinlovewithhim,andgavebirthtoKubo.HerSistersand
Kubo'sgrandfatherfeltbetrayedandhavesincebrandedherasanenemy.Kubohasadreaminwhichheis
greetedbyRaiden(RalphFiennes),ablindoldmanwhoshowshimwheretofindhisfather'shelmet,thefinal
pieceofarmor.Theyheadtohisfather'sdamagedfortresstoreclaimthearmor,butareambushedbythe
remainingSisterwhorevealsthatBeetleisinfactKubo'sfather,Hanzo,whomtheyhadcursed.Beetleis
killed,andMonkeysacrificesherselftoallowKubotoobtainhisshamisenandkillherSisterwithit,breaking
twoofthestringsintheprocess.AfterKubolearnsthathisvillage'sbellisthehelmet,hebreaksthelaststring
onhisshamisenanduseshismagictoflybacktohisvillage.
Afterreclaimingthehelmet,heisgreetedbyRaiden,whoisrevealedtobehisgrandfather,theMoonKing,
whowantstotakeKubo'sothereyeinordertojoinhis"family"andmakehimimmortallikehim.Kuborefuses
andanangeredRaidentransformsintoadragonandattacks.Kuboisbeatenandthrownintothevillage
cemeterywherethebeastcornersbothhimandthevillagers.Kuboshedsthearmorandrestringshisshamisen,
usinghismother'shair,hisfather'sbowstring,andastrandofhisownhair.Heusesitsmagictorecruitthe
spiritsofthedeceasedvillagers,showingthatmemoriesarethestrongestmagicofallandcanneverbe
destroyed.KubousesthespiritstoshieldhimselfandthevillagersfromtheMoonBeastandthenengulfshim
intheirmagic.TheMoonKingisdefeatedandbecomesmortal,andinhishumanformhasnorecollectionof
whoorwhathewas.Thevillagersshowcompassionandforgivenessandtellhimthathewasamanofmany
positivetraits,thusconvincinghimthathewasagoodman.Attheend,Kuboisabletospeakwithhisparents
whosespiritsappearbesidehim,ashesetstheirlanternsafloatacrossthelake.
