Entering Old English characters.

(Code entry method)

Firstly, whatever computer system you have, make sure you are using a font that has the most complete
set of characters as possible. Many specialist and novelty fonts have only a very restricted character set.
Each computer type has several methods of inputing special characters. The method described below is
only one such method, however unlike the other ways of doing it this method is complete and allows
the user access to every character your system is capable of producing.
Mac:
On a Mac running OS X first open 'System Preferences' then 'Language and Text' then select the
'Input Sources' tab. Here you can choose a selection of language/keyboards that you may wish to use.
For Old English select 'Unicode Hex Input' and also select the 'Keyboard & Character Viewer' at the
top of the list. (This changes your system settings so you should only need to do this when you want
to change settings)
You should now see a small flag in your System toolbar. If you click on the flag and choose 'Unicode
Hex Input' from the drop down list you will be able to enter any character available in the font you're
using simply by holding the 'Option' key and entering the four digit Hex code.
Linux:
Hold 'Control'+'Shift'+u, release and an underlined 'u' will appear. Type in the Hex code for the
character required + 'Enter' and the 'u' will change to the required character.
Windows:
Hold the 'Alt' key while typing the decimal code on the numeric keypad. NOTE: MUST use the
decimal code and the numeric keypad. The 'Alt' key technique does not work with the numbers across
the top of the alpha-numeric keyboard.
