Chapter 9 Other Functionality

SolidWorks Routing
The SolidWorks Routing add-in now supports
both tubing and piping design. This product was
formerly called SolidWorks Piping.
You can now add different connection points for
tubing or piping on a fitting or equipment
connection, so when you start a route, the type of
route is known. You can have a mix of tubing and
piping in an assembly, each type with its own
route.
PropertyManagers control properties for:
Connection Point
Route Point
Route Properties
The Route Properties PropertyManager handles bends and elbows and you can choose
options such as:
Use flexible

Bend radius: Inside or Center line (changes the default bend radius)
Create custom fittings
Create pipes on open lines
Automatically create fillets

Previously, any bend in a route was filled with a standard elbow if possible, or a custom
elbow if not. Now you can bend the pipe and create routes with both elbows and bends,
and also flexible tubes and hoses.
If you choose Use flexible (available only for tubing), you can include splines and fit
splines in route sketches to create flexible tubing, hoses, and so on.
You can output tube and pipe bend information to files for driving bending machines.
New library content for tubing has been added.
SolidWorks Routing sub-assemblies (tubing and pipe based) can be inserted from the
FeaturePalette in the same way that a T or reducer is inserted. The tube or pipe is
trimmed and its length adjusted on both sides of the inserted assembly.
File locations have been streamlined. Part files are saved in the directory with the
assembly file.
You can now control the display of connection points and route points, including size of
label text and whether the label is displayed, which aids in selection of entities.
Route details can be included in drawing Bills of Materials.
