Understanding(s) for the day
Solving Systems of Equations, 9th grade
A.REI.6 Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately (numerically, algebraically, graphically), focusing on pairs of linear equations in two variables. There is not just one way to solve a problem, though some methods are more efficient than others.
Essential Question(s) for the day
Is there a correct way to solve a problem?
Is there more than one way to solve a problem?
How do you anticipate activities,
materials etc. connect to students prior knowledge?
Today is purely a day to practice material they have already
learned, which is solving systems of equations.
(academic, interests, learning styles,
motivation, Funds of Knowledge)
Daily Assessments (formative and/or summative)
Learning Activities: (Include description and time frame for each activity)
Accommodations made for struggling
and accelerated learners (grouping patterns, content literacy strategies, etc.)
Differentiation
Resources
-Quiz on solving systems of equations and inequalities by
graphing -Speed dating, which will give me time to walk around and see how they are doing. -Quiz: 10ish minutes -Speed dating: Each student will be given an equation. They will take that equation dating. Two students will make a system of equations, which they must solve. They will rotate and meet with different students, making different equations. Once done, they must find something they have in common. 45 minutes -Clean up/ put the room back into order. 5 minutes I am giving each student their equation. Beforehand I sort the equations into easy, normal, and hard piles. I will give each student an equation based on their skill level (so my gifted students can be challenged, while the struggling students wont be overwhelmed. The kids dont only have to do math. They are also encouraged to be social and get to know their classmates better. The whole activity is differentiation, because I wanted to give them a more interactive activity. -Quiz -Dating pamphlet -Equations paper
