Dear Parents & Guardians,

This year in this Social Studies class we will attempt to cover a variety of subjects. I want
to assist your children in becoming better and/or more effective writers. My plan to achieve this
is by helping them become better everyday note takers and researchers using the writing-to-learn
concept. Your children can become better readers and writers using this concept, they will learn
how to think critically and analytically when they read and write. They will begin to see how
they are not just simply reading and writing words, but are recognizing the ideas behind the
material we will cover and how the material can relate to them individually and as part of a
community. This is something that can be used amongst and throughout the various subjects that
we will cover in this class from: early civilizations, civics and government, historical documents,
diverse cultures, etc.
