Introduction

A squatter settlement can generally be defined as a residential

area in an urban locality inhabited by the very poor who have no
access to tenured land of their own, and hence "squat" on vacant
land, either private or public. The simple shelters that the slum
dwellers construct with the help of their rudimentary building
skills can be erected and re-erected at short notice..As the
population grows, more and more families move into the cities in
search of a better life, causing more poverty and creating bigger
slums in cities. Families live in these areas, isolated from the rest
of the people(wealthy and middle class) and come across many
obstacles that make it hard for them to live their lives.Slums
squatters are characterized by poor sanitation, overcrowded and
crude habitation, inadequate water supply, hazardous location
and insecurity of tenure.Their living conditions depict poverty in
terms of both inadequate incomes and environmental deprivation.
