General Electric announces MARC-300, a revolutionary

new projection lighting system producing up to four times
the screen brightness of current 8mm and 16mm systems.
The new MARC-300 system, consisting of a two-inch-long,
300-watt quartz arc larnp and a power supply unit, "outshines" current 1,000-watt incandescent systems by up to
4O0% in screen brightness.
The lamp itself is small enough to permit its use in current projectors with a minimum of redesign by manufacturers.
It looks like an ordinary tubular quartz lamp except for a
half-inch "arc chamber" bulge near one end.
The special General Electric power supply unit, which
staris the lamp and controls it during operation, weighs
aboul 20 pounds.
The experience of seeing MARC-300 projection for the
first time is truly exciting, even for professional users.
The whites, in particular, are made so much more brilliant
and crisp, and darker colors seem to take on new life.
The new projection lighting system the lamp, power supply unit and accessories are now being sold to projector
manufacturers for incorporation into new, high perforrnance
equipment. Replacement lamps will be available to users
after projectors are marketed.
Projectors wiih MARC-300 systems will find greatest immediate acceptance in audio-visual markets, mainly schools,
the military and industry, where high brightness and portability are important.
