Writing Skills Paving the Way: Present, Past, and Future
When you think about the career of your dreams, where do you see yourself in the next 5
years? This is a question I ask myself all the time, just to see if my answer has changed. Ever
since the day I was born, Ive had the dream of being an Exotic Veterinarian as I wondered about
the world outside of my mothers protective embrace. Remembering her hold on me, this
gradually increased, as I matured. I patiently molded into a young girl who unexpectedly, found a
calming passion in writing.

Even at the age where I became curious about places, I didnt dare to trespass upon. Why
is it that writing stories always made me feel like a flamboyant musketeer, always searching for a
new and unexplored pathway? It made me feel like a completely different person, as my thoughts
were enthralled in coming up with unforeseen treasures, buried deep within the reaches of my
mind. The thought of someone reading my story to the point where they couldnt stop cringing.
Those times when it almost seemed impossible to stop smiling. Why was that? Is it due to the
hard work that I happily obliged within the story?

When you think about your career, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? Do you
see yourself sitting at a desk, skimming through papers, wondering when youll get your next
paycheck? If youre not thinking about it at all, then that means you most likely dont have a
back-up plan. Graduation is a very serious thing when it comes to High School. That place most
people call the abyss, is where it all counts. Its where credits come into the playing field.

Try to imagine the life you want. Now, think about what you are doing to make that mere
dream a reality. To be honest, writing stories now has become a hobby. I am fully devoted to the
Arts of Music, Theater, Dance, and Taekwondo. Dont misunderstand. There is nothing wrong
with a girl that wants to put a real beating on a man that comes her way, right? Anyways, back to

what I was saying. The ability to be able to compose a piece of innovative writing shouldnt be
any more as challenging as a person composing music.
Imagine you have a job interview at one of the biggest law firms in the state. You have
researched to the point your fingers felt stiff. You are pretty sure you have this job in the bag,
since you predicted the basic questions they would ask you, and called it a night. You wake up,
get ready, and head out. You didnt bother to think outside the box because they were just like
any other law firm.
What happens if they skip the getting to know you part, and get right to the point? That
was something you hadnt expected. Along with the fact that your resume was only five
paragraphs, when they were expecting an essay. All of your answers went straight down the
drain. You can no longer focus on the task at hand, and you are only able to let muttered words
escape the long thin line that stretches from ear to ear, in an attempt to make them think you
understand whats going on.
Now, what just happened? You wait for the phone that doesnt ring or the heavenly sound
of a little bird, signaling your email. Nothing happens. So, that means that since you were just a
little bit too below average, you decided to just hang it up for the night. Working harder always
signifies glory in the long run. One bad habit building after another. When you finally realize
your mistake, it is already too late.
Strong essays are always on top of someone elses game. If you dont bring it, someone
else will (Hansen). You will be left behind in the dirt, where even the keenest eyes and kindest
hearts will leave you to rot. Its because they know that you are just, what most people will call,
dead weight. Slowly, dragging everyone else down with you. Dropping out of school only
increases your chances of this event. The probability of YOUR success is 0 to 5, if not at all.
What will be your last resort if your first plan fails tremendously? How will you meet the dark
bottomless pit, we call failure, and make your way back up to the cloudless skies of success?
Im pretty sure people my age, will be within the dividend of times like this. What if, the
only thing you were actually good at, was writing stories. From little kids books, to novels, to
chapter books, all the way up to publishing your own book. A future you never really saw
coming. But, that just means youre like the rest of us, right? Somewhere in the world where they
make their own life stories. That is until, somewhere along the way, someone must be prepared
to accept the end. No matter how inacceptable or blunt it may seem. All thats left is a broken
heart that needs mending. In another story, I presume!
At the peak of someones future, there stands a ticket to better grades and a greater
academic experience. Most people dont even understand the magnitude, in which the mastery of
writing can be overrated (Hansen). Lets travel back in time, shall we? The art of writing dates
back past the day any of you were born. It concluded of scribbled lines that would soon
somehow make their way into the form of an unknown shape. Sooner or later, we found
ourselves forming various lines that turned into letters.
Withstanding the assumption, in which was satisfied, by holding back the itch that
wanted to escape. The earliest writing found was merely 5500 years ago (BCC). They were

markings found on fragments of pottery in Pakistan. But, that wasnt the only place. From
Mesopotamia and Harappa, between 3500 BC and 3100 BC. (Whitehouse)
Tools later on discovered to be a part of a learning environment soon came into play in
the 1970s and 1980s (Cambridge). Chandler, as a teacher, wanted to explore the new levels of
teaching that surfaced near him (8-9). But, in order to do this, he held the fact that humans as a
being could handle all the tasks a computer could. His inevitability thesis was to continue the
work he held dear to himself in the form of a philosophers technology, in which was not used in
the way he had planned (32).
