ssion Webs
Discussion webs (Alvermann, 1991) are similar to semantic
webs, but students collaborate to construct them.
To use discussion webs in the classroom:
1, Activate students’ prior knowledge, post questions, and
make predictions about the text selection.
. Read the selection.
. Present students with a web that contains a critical
question in the middle.
. Pair students and have them generate pro and con
answers to the question.
5, Students then pass their webs to other students in small
groups and add to each other's webs in structured
rotations,
6. When the students get their own webs back, they
examine the comments and decide which side to support
7. The teacher then facilitates class discussion so that
students draw their own conclusions.
