1) The base of the retort stand was clamped to the bench.

2) Six springs connected together in a chain was suspended from the clamp which
was mounted on the stand.
3) The 100g mass was suspended from the bottom spring as seen in the diagram.
4) The mass was gently displaced and released to perform small, vertical
oscillations.
5) The stop watch was used to record to time for 10 oscillations, t10 to be
completed.
6) The period of oscillation, T was then calculated.
7) Steps 1 to 6 were repeated until six sets of values of T and n have been obtained,
where n was the number of springs and varied from n=1 to n=6.
8) Values of lg(tT/s) and lg(n) was recorded and tabulated.

1) The cork was attached firmly on using the boss, clamp and stand. A chain of n
paperclips was attached to the hook as seen in the diagram where the initial value
of n= 25.
2) The chain was displaced from its equilibrium position by moving the bottom clip
and to keep the chain stretched.
3) The chain was released and when it oscillated smoothly, the time for to
oscillations, t10 was measured and recorded.
4) The value of n (5<=n<=25) was changed and the procedure was repeated until
six sets of values were obtained.
5) For the oscillator, it was suggested that the quantities T and n are related by a
simple power law of the form
T=pn^q where p and q are constants
