2. Effectiveness of:
a. Technology: The classroom has a smartboard for the teacher to use to better
engage the students. The computer in class serves as the teachers connection to
the school and as a tool of interaction for the smartboard. The smartboard is used

primarily for presentation purposes. No another technology is utilized in the

classroom
b. Traffic Patterns: The teacher's desk is at the back right side of the room with his
computer to the right of him. It is a little cramped for the teacher in his area, but
he focuses more on the podium in the middle. This arrangement is suitable
because the teacher can see all of his students well from his podium and the
students can easily engage with one another. The only problem is that it can be
easy to cheat in some of the most crowded spots where students sit at. But the
teacher seems to catch anyone who tries such an action.
c. Instructional Displays: There are a few posters on the wall, but their purpose
seems to fill the space the class rather than active engagement. The posters on the
wall appear to draw the student in more to the thinking of history rather than
having information relevant to the class. This is beneficial as if there was too
much compromising information then students would just use what's on the
posters to cheat.
d. Classroom Management: The students need a brief period at the beginning of each
class, but after five minutes they tend to settle down. The teacher gives little
tolerance to verbal disruption and as such any attempt at a disturbance quiets
down quickly. If a problem got too out of hand, the teacher would write up a
student. But with his authoritative nature, he generally holds the classroom
together due to the respect the students have for him.
e. Motivational Elements: The teacher gives verbal praise concerning motivational
elements. He also gives verbal reprimands if students are misbehaving or too far
off task. The students are well behaved while the teacher is there. But when I was
there with a sub in his place the class was rowdy. This tells me that the students

respect the teacher which is good and that a balance of praise and scolding is
necessary to run an efficient classroom.
