A reflection on the Discourse Community Map and Activity Theory
Triangle of the Batman
Well, this certainly was a fantastic learning experience. Learning about
discourse communities initially seemed to be a waste of time to me, but I
can honestly say that my opinion on that matter has changed. Learning
about how to break down and examine the communities my selected
character was a part of, helped me to further understand the design and
complexity of Batman. Neatly organizing and preparing information on any
character that I would research would be of great assistance, especially when
I would do biographies on historical figures. Now that the assignment is over,
I feel that I have a firm grasp on the required criteria for this assignment.
While I may have missed some points, namely the subject portion of the
Activity Theory Triangle, I know that I will improve overall, and work on fixing
my errors.
Luckily for me, my writing skills made creating the assignment very
easy.
Im not attempting to be cocky about my skills, but I typically do little
revision in my work. I tend to think of the entire essay for a few minutes prior
to putting pen to paper, or fingers to keys in this case. As I type, I am
thinking of the next 2 sentences and Im always thinking of how I want to
keep my audience or reader enthralled. Overall, I felt that the readings were
good for anyone who didnt have an understanding of Discourse Community
Maps and Activity Theory Triangles, but at times, the book devolved too
much into complicated explanations for a simple concept.
