Inspiration for my story came from the fairytale, Sleeping Beauty.

I wanted to
write a modern version of this story and see what that kind of modern version would look
like. I looked at three versions of this story to gain perspective of what to write in my
own. This first one I looked at was Charles Perrault's "La Belle Au Bois Dormant" which
is French for The Beauty Sleeping in the Wood that was written into two parts. Next
was Brothers Grimm version called Little Briar Rose and Walt Disneys Sleeping
Beauty. All three of these versions have a King and Queen who give birth to a little girl,
an evil woman who had the spinning wheel. The princess is asleep for a while and a
prince who comes to save her. How I developed my own version of this is that I have a
family who had a daughter and the evil woman did something awful to her to get back at
the family and a young man saves her. Because I wanted to make my story modern I used
a different setting.
To evaluate my story, I drew inspiration for the three stories mentioned above. My
plot is simple with a business family who has a daughter and creates an enemy out of
Mrs. R who wants revenge. She puts the daughter Isabella to sleep and its up to Mr.
Clark to save her. I think because of its fast pace it keeps the reader engaged till the very
end. The message of this story is to not burn bridges, because the family had a bad
business with Mrs. R, she wanted her revenge. Because I illustrated my own drawings I
hope they add value to the story being told. My story follows the norm that a young man
must save the women he admires.
