Correspondence for 400 Hour Internship

In reviewing the paperwork that was completed in January to get you started in the program,
it was brought to my attention that the standard procedure of an interview by me was not
conducted. I think this was not done because I was out of the country at the time. Just to
complete your file I would like to set up a time to conduct the interview via phone. Would
you be available tomorrow or Thursday between 12:00 and 1:00 for about 30 minutes? If so,
at what number can I use to call you? If not, can you suggest a couple of dates and times
that would work for you? Thank you for your help in this.

Subject: Introduction
Dear Elizabeth,
Allow me to introduce myself. I will be supervising your 400 hr. internship at the Frank A.
Sedita School. I have been an adjunct professor with St. Bona for the last six years. I was a
building principal in both the Buffalo Public schools and Williamsville Central schools for over
35 years.
I would like to schedule a meeting with you and your supervisor, Dawn DiNatale, to review
your proposal & matrix. We will establish protocol at this initial meeting for:
-regular feedback and sign-off by Ms. DiNatale of your weekly/monthly logs,
-monthly submission of logs to me via email,
-collection of artifacts
-on-going input of required e-folio entries
-final evaluation at the completion of each internship.
This will be the time to ask questions and clarify your internship goals/project.
You suggested meeting during the first week in July. I am available July 1st - all day & July
2nd after 12:30 PM. Please check with Ms. DiNatale and let me know which day/time works
best for you.

I look forward to hearing from you to confirm our meeting and working with you throughout
your internship experiences. Below, please find my phone and personal email addresses.
Please use my St. Bona email address whenever possible. Please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Jill N. Pellis

I contacted Professor Jill Pellis and she has agreed to be your university supervisor. She will
be contacting you to set up a date to review the documents with you and your site
supervisor. Due to accreditation requirements at the University, I need to be able to share
the communication that transpires between interns and the university supervisor. Please
include me as a cc on all emails and communications with Professor Pellis. Also, I suggest
you begin developing your e-folio and downloading documents as you go. This will save you
time at the end of your internship. Please feel free to contact me should you have any
additional concerns or questions as you go through your internship.

Hello Dr. McDonough,
I have attached the matrix for your review. Again, I apologize for my missing information.
The one standard I had a little difficulty and may require some assistance with is Standard 7.
Let me know what you think. Thanks!

The application and the proposal are great. The matrix also needs to be completed. You do
not need to complete the artifacts section but it may help you to pre-plan. If you would like
to attempt to complete the matrix and email it to me, I can help you with revisions if

needed. Your assistant principal and your principal may be able to help as well. The sooner
you get this last document to me, the sooner I can assign a university supervisor and you
can set up the meeting and then get started with logging hours. You can always amend and
revise the matrix as needed. You would just need to submit a revised matrix to your
university supervisor and me for approval. I hope this helps.

Hi Dr. McDonough,
I have attached my application, proposal, and matrix. I will be working on many other
projects this summer, but I have included the ones my principal and I have met about so far.
For example, I am running the after school program next year and I will be meeting about
this all summer. I Let me know if I need to add more to my proposal. I wasn't too sure about
this! I have already started recording my hours on my log sheet. My principal would like me
to start at school next Wednesday, July 1st. Thank you!

Dr. McDonough,
Do I need to write a letter of intent? And, is it too late for my application? My principal has
communicated to me that she is expecting me to intern with her this summer.

You can start your internship this summer because you have completed two EDL prefixed
courses. I have attached the SBL internship handbook for your guidance regarding the
process. I would suggest that you provide a copy to your site supervisor. Three documents
need to be submitted to me for approval-the application, the proposal and the matrix. Once
I receive them and they are approved, I will assign a university supervisor to you. You will
need to schedule a meeting with you, your site supervisor and the university supervisor to
finalize the document and sign off on them. You can then begin logging hours. I would
strongly suggest you begin developing your e-folio as you move forward in the internship as
that will save you time later on.

Dr. McDonough,
I was wondering if I'm able to complete some of my intern hours this summer? My principal
would like me to do several projects for her. Let me know. I'm not really sure how the
process works. Also, I was wondering what grade I received on my attendance project?
Thank you.
