Dear Malcom,

Hello! My name is Molly. I will be eighteen on September 14th. I enjoy singing, playing
guitar, writing, drinking coffee, traveling, working with kids, dancing, playing tennis, and
spending time with people I love. My family currently lives in Mocksville, NC (about
twenty minutes south of Winston Salem), but we have also lived in Albemarle, Kings
Mountain, and Mount Airyall in North Carolina.
Moving during my childhood was a bit challenging, but it certainly caused my immediate
family to grow quite close. Speaking of, my moms name is Lisa, my dads name is
Darrin, and I have one sister named Madison. My sister is currently a junior here at
UNCC, and she is my best friend. Even though we often get on each others nerves, she is
truly my closest companion. Madi is bold, determined, and friendly. She studies business
and marketing, and her dream is to open her own business someday.
I also have strong relationships with my parents. My dad is a school superintendent
(hence
all of the moving), and I would describe him as goofy, mild-tempered, and
selfless. I am wired a bit like my dadreserved at
times
and calm in high-stress situations. On the other
hand, I
favor my mom in many ways when I am hyper
and
silly. My moms job title has been Mom since
I was
born, but she is now heading back to work as an
8th
grade Language Arts teacher. My mom is
introspective, caring, and organized.
Family
of

is important to me, but an even higher priority

mine is my faith. I am passionate about
growing a relationship with Jesus and
seeking to love people like He does. This
drives many of my activities and daily
life. For example, I mentioned I like to
sing and play guitar; I love to share this
passion through leading worship. I would
enjoy incorporating leading worship into my career someday.
My major is Middle Grades Education. Growing up, I considered becoming a
veterinarian (even though I am allergic to animals), real estate agent, dermatologist,
author, singer/musician (its still a dream, but kind of improbable), or counselor. Now, I
am planning to become a middle school Language Arts or Social Studies teacher. In the
past couple of years, an interest in being a teacher has slowly but surely crept into my
mind. I have a sense of contentment and energy when I work with kids, and I am an avid
supporter of education. My 7th grade teacher was a hero for me in the midst of those crazy
middle school days, and I want to be that same comfort for the next generation. My heart

longs to support, empower, and care for the twelve and thirteen-year-olds struggling with
insecurity and identity. I am happy to be headed on the path to this career.
I love to write. (So, Im super excited for this class!) Somehow, I can get my point across
much easier on paper rather than spoken words. I write many journal entries, and I have
also written a few songs. About a year ago, I decided to share my affection for writing
through a blog I created. My blog posts are composed of thoughts and lessons that dance
into my mind that I believe can encourage or provoke something within a reader. Many
posts are related to following Christ. However, I have put my blog on the backburner for
a while to write for the Odyssey Online for UNCC. My articles on the Odyssey are a little
less deep and a little more whimsical.
So, that is a bit about me! I know I have a lot to learn as a writer, so I am beyond eager to
improve my skills this semester. I look forward to getting to know more about you and
everyone in the class!
Sincerely,
Molly Jane Hartness
