This article is an interview with Arlette Stevens Castao, a nurse who
works with sexual assault patients, examining and collecting DNA for rape
kits that crime labs later go on to use and examine. Stevens Castao
explains how rewarding it is to be able to work with patients who are so in
need of someone understanding, someone who will listen to them and hear
them out in their most vulnerable state. She explains that while in nursing
school, she heard of this job and was drawn to it because she could do this
work on the side and also be able to make a difference in the lives of her
patients. Arlette explains the process of her examination of the patient and
how much of a need there are for nurses like her. Her job, she says, she
enjoys and has made her drawn to these sort of patients.
