For the most part, Emily followed her lesson plan as written. The round-robin with the pre-assessment
went pretty well; if she had encouraged the students to guess at the meaning, there might have been
more variety. (some Ss copied what the previous child wrote.) The students loved the read-aloud, and
almost all participated. Both during the read-aloud and during the video, Emily pointed out the
vocabulary and its context as they went along. The glossary got skipped. When she went back to the list
on the board, Emily gave them most of the definitions, asking for a few from the class. The word
sort went well. Emily needed to model the writing of the final short paragraph with the goal of using the
words to talk about wolves. What she got instead was three or four sentences of definitions. Overall,
however, it was well done, and the students were very engaged.
