Understanding students is very important to teaching. In order
to plan how to teach your students or ways to present a subject in an interesting manner. Teachers have to know students abilities and what they know and they need to learn. Before I teach grade 1 I start to ask my MST about students abilities and who wants more care in learning. When I start teaching them I start to take some information about what they know before. I just talk to the students. The purpose of this would be to open
the lines of communication between you and the students for
example: the lesson was about addition numbers, so I ask them who know the sign of the addition. I saw that high ability students know the sign and they wrote it on the board. I know what students know through asking them in class some questions and listen to their answer. Also, I always used my IPad to review their information. They like play on IPad and that motivate them to present their information in it. I show them a game which is a learning game and most of them participate to play. Another thing that help me to know what they know, I give them a paper which have some question about number. I gave them 5 minutes to answer the question in the end I read their answer to know who have an information more than others. In my opinion, as a teacher I think it is important to establish a comfortable verbal rapport with the students so they feel comfortable expressing their concerns to me as well as participate in class.
