Examples of Assisted Technology

How I accommodate my students:

What did you say?

Examples of assisted technology in
classrooms can be as simple as

IDEA: Individuals with Disabilities

Education Act was reauthorized in
1990, and it enabled inclusion of
students with disabilities into
normal classrooms.
IEP: Individual Education
Program means a written plan for
how students specific needs will
be addressed.
Assistive Technology: any item,
piece of equipment, or product
system, that is used to increase,
maintain, or improve the
functional capabilities of a child
with a disability.

UDL: Universal Design for

Learning
1. Providing multiple means of
representation
2. Providing multiple means of
action and expression
3. Providing multiple means of
engagement

1. Pencil grips
2. Specialty paper to assist with
writing
3. Providing students extra
time/a quiet room for a test
Other high-tech examples would
be
1. Tape recorders
2. Electronic spell checkers
3. Talking calculators

Websites for assistance:

1. I am lenient with (reasonable)

absences
2. I provide extra assistance to
any student where needed,
or direct students/parents to
where they need to go for
extra help
3. I clearly define my syllabus in
the beginning of the school
year with dates
4. Even the playing field treat
all students with respect and
allow for understanding when
needed
5. Teach in a strategy that
appeals to all learning styles
