FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DEADLINE TO REGISTER TO VOTE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO OCT, 18, 2016
(JACKSONVILLE, Fla, Oct, 12, 2016) - The deadline to register to vote in 2016
General election has been extended to Oct, 18, at 5 p.m., according to the Duval County
Supervisor of Election Office.
The new deadline will ensure all voters have the opportunity to register, Greg Clark
outreach director of the Duval County Supervisor of Election office said.
People from the Duval County have more days to register to vote because of the
Hurricane Matthew. Florida Gov. Rick Scott had ordered to 1.5 million residents to evacuate
their home during Hurricane Matthew. Some Florida residents did not get a chance to register
to vote. U. S. District Judge Mark Walker decided to extend the deadline to vote by giving six
more days. This new deadline is a chance for people from Duval County to vote and to get
their voice heard. The registration is a condition to be able to vote.
All 67 county election supervisors must accept applications from new voters until 5
p.m. on Oct. 18, and forms must be accepted if they are postmarked by that date, even if they
arrive days later, Greg Clark said.
Once people are registrated, they can go to the Early Voting to vote before the date of
the election and avoid the crowd. According to Greg Clark, the Early Voting will open on
Monday, Oct., 24; to Sunday, Nov., 6, 2016. The Monroe Street office will open from 8 a.m.
until 5 a.m., and voters can cast their ballots from 8 p.m. until 4 p.m. Seventeen early voting
sites will also open.

This Early Election is a way to give young workers from Duval County the opportunity
to vote and to be heard. The voters need to be registrated and to have a valid photo ID with
signature at the polls to vote.
We are counting down, Clark said. Weve been training poll workers educating
voters; and now its up to the people.
