Summary: This article addresses two different issues in the nursing world today. The
first issue they talk about is how the U.S department of Health and Human Services
funded 20 scholarships at St. Louis University. This money, as well at mentoring
allowed 10 freshmen and 10 sophomores to become nurses. Not only will this
money help with the nursing shortage, it will also help with registered nursing
diversity. As of right now, most practicing nursing are white females so these
scholarships will help increase diversity.

informs the audience about the statistics and what might happen in the future if
there arent any more nurses. As of right now, the majority of nurses are from the
baby Boom and are nearing retirement. The other younger nurses do not have as
much experiences and the older generation of nurses do not feel comfortable
leaving.
