Well she starts off this article talking about what she personally enjoys as far
as using social media. So she begins with talking about how she likes using
Facebook to stay connected with friends and family she otherwise wouldnt be able
to talk to or see or be a part of their lives. Her next statement is how she doesnt
like using twitter because she thinks its to new age and she doesnt get the
concept. For her professional career as a scientist she uses linkedin to make it
easier for groups of people to talk and communicate. She then goes into different
types of scientific social media that they can use to help each other, communicate
about scientific ideals, and share data.
The first one she talks about is ResearchGate and she says that she can use
that to see what her co-authors are publishing recently and how the articles shes
published are being used. The next social media site she talks about is Altrimetrics
which will give a score to any article on the site that lets the author see how his or
her article is being viewed and used on social media around the world and identifies
other scientists interested in your work. The next one her publishers use and that is
Kudos which helps with organizing the information about your research in one place
and also makes it easier for younger nonscientists to understand. She then ends the
article by saying that the best way we can use social media is to have valuable
conversation and interaction in a timely manner.
